The minister highlighted that the University Grants Commission is responsible for overseeing the recruitment of faculty in universities, colleges, and institutions designated as varsities, having formulated guidelines for this purpose.

In addition to the teaching vacancies, central universities are grappling with 12,437 non-teaching positions that remain unfilled. This includes 1,235 vacant posts in IGNOU and 108 in three Sanskrit central universities.

Recent developments include the establishment of two new central universities in Andhra Pradesh, with proposals for additional central universities in Bhagalpur and Ladakh, as disclosed in a written reply to Lok Sabha by the minister.

It is worth noting that in the previous year, a total of 6,688 teaching posts were vacant across various universities in India, along with 12,323 unfilled non-teaching positions.
